β€œCan You See Me?”

A diptych in oil on refurbished canvas print.

On my walk to work, I often come across carcasses of squirrels and birds. Their bodies are often nearly unrecognizable, having morphed from their cause of death and decay. Despite this, many of my colleagues did not share my pain at seeing so many dead animals. These paintings aim to display their bodies in an agonizing, uncomfortable form that forces the viewer to acknowledge them finally.

The paintings are done completely in oil paint. Instead of purchasing new canvas, I gessoed and painted over canvas prints that I was given by a friend of mine. I used careful layering to add texture to the forms, making them both disturbing and intriguing.
