Shop Small Bham is a guide for all the small businesses of Birmingham. I was hired to design a map of some of the local shops downtown. They requested the maps be aesthetically pleasing, simply designed and easy to carry.

I decided the best way to achieve this was to have the maps o postcards as opposed to a traditional folded map. This would make them easy not only for customers to carry but also for the shops to merchandise. In order for enough information to be displayed, I made the postcards a little larger than the standard size at 6 x 8.

I drew my color palettes from the environment on 2nd Ave N. The street is lined with old, ed-brick buildings and vibrant gingko trees. The sky is always especially blue due to the lack of coverage from skyscrapers. I softened the colors to a more pastel tone to insure the colors all complimented each other well.

The map covers only some of the wonderful businesses of Birmingham, but I wanted it to capture the unique identity if the city.
